Lucille Gudis Memorial Fund for Jewish Genealogy

Mission Statement

Lucille Gudis, 1933-2005 z”l, represented the best of what genealogy can accomplish and was a continuing inspiration to her family, friends, and fellow genealogists. She died on December 23, 2005.

Lucille was an officer of the Jewish Genealogical Society and a co-chair of the 2006 International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies Conference. Over the years, she served as Treasurer, Vice President for Programming and Vice President for Membership of the Jewish Genealogical Society. She co-chaired the 1999 Jewish Genealogy Conference in New York with Past President Michael Brenner.

Lucille’s interests included general Jewish history as well as genealogy. She was an officer of the Jewish Historical Society of New York and worked closely with the organization’s founder, the late Rabbi Malcolm Stern. Lucille co-chaired the American Jewish Historical Society conference in New York in 1993.

To honor and memorialize her genealogical career and interests, the Jewish Genealogical Society hereby creates the Lucille Gudis Memorial Fund for Jewish Genealogy to:

  • Increase knowledge of genealogical research through educational lectures at
conferences, genealogical seminars, and other venues,
  • Examine the latest developments in research methodology and encourage the
development of creative ways to transmit genealogical research data on a
worldwide basis through the Internet and other technologies, and
  • Provide a forum and means of expression for the most skilled genealogical researchers to present their materials to others.

Adopted by the Executive Council of the Jewish Genealogical Society on June 5, 2006.
