Speaker: Gil Bardige

Did you enjoy Gil Bardige’s April JGSNY talk on working with your DNA results? If so, now it it’s time for your next steps. Gil will discuss proven methodologies that will allow you to prioritize your next 50 unknown priority matches with the highest probability of finding a common relative on a family tree or the ones you should ignore and stop wasting your time on. This intermediate to advanced level presentation is primarily for those with Jewish ancestry who have used the principles that Gil presented in Part 1 and have run into new brick walls or just want to be able to expand their search parameters productively. Gil will provide you with actionable processes that you can use in your genealogy research, including new criteria for each testing company. He explains pile-up regions and triangulation and introduces his Average Segment Theory for those who have tested at Ancestry.

Bio:

Gil Bardige began his genealogy adventure in 1979 with 54 people in his family tree. Today his tree, including extended family (his mishpocha), includes over 2500 people tracing four branches back to his 5th great-grandfathers, born about 1740. For the past 17 years Gil has been expanding his expertise to genetic genealogy. He has spoken at dozens of local events and conferences, including IAJGS conferences, co-hosts live Genetic Genealogy Q&A sessions at JGS Illinois and JGS Toronto, and chairs the Genealogy Committee of the Columbus Jewish Historical Society. Gil has also managed the Mentoring Program for IAJGS and co-hosts the Apple Users and Jewish Genealogy Facebook page and monthly virtual Birds of a Feather meeting. Gil is a firm believer that you can use DNA results as a tool in your genealogical research to generate clues that can help to confirm or deny relationships.
